William graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor's degree in business. He joined the Canadian Repertory Company. He performed in 'Tamburlaine' at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival.
He has starred on Broadway.
His film debut was in the 1951 Canadian movie "The Butler's Night Off."
He appeared in many TV shows and films before accepting the role of Captain Kirk in "Star Trek."
He enjoys tennis, yoga, skiing and horse-riding.
He breeds American Saddlebreed horses.
He is involved with the charity, Ahead With Horses and the American Tinnitus Association.
